The Abingdon Pottery was founded in Abingdon, Illinois, in 1908 and operated until 1954. It was known for producing a wide range of decorative and utilitarian ceramics, including vases, planters, and tableware, often in a distinctive Art Deco style. Their pieces are recognized for their quality craftsmanship and unique glazes, making them sought after by collectors.

This particular vase, with its stylized leaf motifs and scrolled handles, exemplifies the Art Deco aesthetic popular during the 1930s and 1940s. The matte blue glaze is characteristic of many Abingdon pieces from that era. Such vases were often used for floral arrangements and served as decorative accents in homes, reflecting the era's emphasis on modern design and artistic expression in everyday objects.
